Propane Driver Job Description

The primary function is driving propane tanks to gas stations and residential locations, loading and unloading bulk fuels and completing assigned paperwork. There will be exposure to dust, fumes and high noise levels. Required to drive occasionally in hazardous conditions, including weather, tight quarters and blighted areas. Compliance with all DOT, Company and Safety Policies, procedures and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work 5 days a week including one weekend day
  • Able to work 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. on busy days)
  • 12 hour days are typical during peak times of the year
  • Be able to lift 50lbs of necessary equipment
  • May be asked to work occasional Saturdays depending on workload during the winter months
  • Possess a CDL A license with proper endorsements, including hazmat and tanker
  • Physically be able to load and unload trucks
  • Experience in driving in all types of weather conditions
  • Pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Pass 7 year background check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a road test given by Corrigan

Primary Responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles in various road conditions throughout Michigan and surrounding states.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading positions, checking that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  • Load propane as instructed at designed location using propane gun/nozzle.
  • Responsible for general maintenance of truck, including but not limited to: checking oil and fuel levels
  • Ability to carry propane tanks up to 54 pounds.
  • Complete all "pre-trip" requirements before each truck run and "post-trip" requirement at the end of each shift.
  • Ability to push 96 pounds and pull 130 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladder with a minimum of 3 rungs regularly.
  • Ability to operate SmartLogix computer system or similar.
  • Ability to read and complete written documentation with respect to Bill of Lading, Inventory, Pre and Post trips inspections, Orders and Propane ticket copies. Ensure propane tickets match orders.
  • Follows company quality, safety and environmental guidelines.

  • High school or equivalent

  • Transportation: 1 year

Required licenses or certifications:

  • CDL A LICENSE preferred

  • B,X, Air and Tank ENDORSEMENTS
